Why October?

October First is International Music Day.

The IMD was initiated in 1975 by Lord Yehudi Menuhin to encourage:

the promotion of our musical art among all sections of society & the application of the UNESCO ideals of peace and friendship between peoples, of the evolution of their cultures, of the exchange of experience and of the mutual appreciation of their aesthetic values.

These ideals are at the very root of our Mission as the 98520 Music and Arts District Initiative/Grays Harbor Arts and thus we have extended this vision into a month long festival.

Our Home base of Operations

It is the mission of the 98520 Music and Arts District Initiative to promote and facilitate the education, creation, development, display, performance, and consumption of various art forms in Grays Harbor County. Located within the Shoppes at Riverside, The Garage: Music and Arts Center is here to fulfill and meet those needs. Currently we are Housing the Youth Orchestra Unbound, Poco Voce Children's Choir (ages 8 - 18), preschool music class, Grays Harbor Homeschool Orchestra and Homeschool Band Programs. Community use Instruments are available on our walls for use within the space and consignment instruments are also available for purchase. Our Art wall is home to consignment amateur art pieces from the community for both display and purchase. Practice Rooms are available for use free of charge to students and we have built a 16' x 22' Rehearsal Studio for local bands to rent at affordable prices. Our main space is available for use for performances and rehearsals. We also provide music accessory retail to provide musicians local access to much needed items.
